Nu-Tech Precision Metals was established in the mid 1950's to manufacture by extrusion, cold drawing and finishing, zirconium alloy pressure tubes for the Canadian nuclear industry. Since the first shipment in 1962, over 17,000 of these pressure tubes have been produced for use in over 40 reactors worldwide. Industries served now include aerospace, nuclear, mining, chemical, military, defense, naval and sub-sea, metal sputtering and glass coating, water treatment, offshore etc. Nu-Tech hot extrudes specialty metal seamless pipe, tube, shapes, bar, rod, wire and bi-metal extrusions from materials such as all grades of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, copper, nickel alloys, high purity aluminum, specialty steels and others. Our extrusion capabilities range from approx 1" OD up to 14" OD with custom wall thicknesses starting at approx .125" and up. Our "near-net" extruded shapes used to a large extent in the aerospace industry must fit within a 12" circle size. Nu-Tech proudly operates two electron beam welders to meet your joining requirements. Our extensive on-site equipment includes centreless grinding, ID honing and boreing, draw bench, hot stretch and bump straightening, pickle, anneal, autoclave, heat treat as well as complete in house certified non destructive testing. Our staff metallurgists, engineers, technicians and others are available to assist you with your design questions. Certifications including AS9100C, ISO 9001-2000, CSA N285.0, ASME III NCA3800 Material organization as well as others.


  • Tubes, Zirconium alloy Seamless zirconium pressure tubes are produced to ASTM, CSA and other specifications. Nu-Tech offers a wide range of sizes and wall thicknesses. Alloys include Zr2, Zr4 and Zr-2.5 Nb. Material may be finished by cold drawing, honing, centreless grinding, stress relieving and welding.

  • Tubes Titanium, including Titanium alloy. Custom extrude seamless Titanium tubes and pipe to ASTM, AMS, MIL or other specifications. Nu-Tech can offer pipe sizes from 1" to 6" and schedule 10 to 160 wall thickness, as well as custom wall thickness'. A wide variety of grades including grades: 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,12, 6Al-6V-2Sn, etc..Tubular products may be raw or finished by cold drawing, honing, centreless grinding and welding. Our Titanium products are used in aerospace applications, corrosive environments, heat exchangers, and semiconductor manufacturing.

  • Bars, Titanium alloy, Cu-Ti bimetal, Composite, Superconducting Nu-Tech extrudes and finishes precision bar stock for a diversity of high technology applications. Titanium and Zirconium alloys (among others) may be produced to ASTM and other specifications. Titanium clad copper bimetal is produced for corrosion resistant conducting bars. Other metal combinations available, please contact us to inquire. Specialty composites including superconducting alloys are extruded for drawing into wire.

  • Custom high tech alloy fabrications. Nu-Tech fabricates complex parts from high tech alloys using advanced technology such as Electron Beam Welding. Alloys fabricated include platinum, stainless steels, nickel alloys, cobalt based alloys, titanium alloys, zirconium alloys, tantalum, hafnium, niobium, copper, magnesium, and hardenable steels.

  • Electron Beam Welding High vacuum, high energy electron beam welding (EBW) offers a cost effective and quality compliant solution to complex manufacturing challenges, and to the fabrication of reactive materials. The size and shape of fabrications, ranging from prototypes to production quantities, is virtually unlimited. Using CNC control, Nu-Tech can fabricate complex shapes from materials as thin as .001" (0.025mm) to tubular components 35' (>10m) in length.

  • Sputtering targets Sputtering targets, used in the manufacture of semiconductors and in other coating applications such as glass for structural and consumer goods are produced at Nu-Tech. Rotatable targets for backing tubes or sputtering targes of Titanium, Tantalum, Niobium, Hafnium, High Purity Alumimun, Nickel Vanadium and Copper are being produced by extrusion and by fabrication.

  • Testing Quality assurance at Nu-Tech includes NDE examinations and materials testing processes. NDE activities include dimensional metrology, ultrasonic examination, liquid penetrant inspection, magnetic particle inspection, and helium mass spectrometer leak detection. Materials testing includes metallography, grain size determination, hydrogen determination, corrosion testing, hardness testing, and tensile testing at room and elevated temperatures.

  • Aircraft maintenance welding and NDT Nu-Tech is approved by Transport Canada for welding and Non Destructive Testing in the maintenance of aeronautical products.

  • NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING - METAL TUBES CGSB Certified non destructive testing technicians on staff.

  • NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING - WELDED PRODUCTS CGSB certified non destructive testing technicians on staff.

  • SEAMLESS PIPE, TITANIUM, ZIRCONIUM Hot extruded seamless pipe and tubes from specialty metals. Sizes range from 1" OD (25 mm) to 14" OD (350 mm) with wall thickness starting at .125" (3.2 mm) and thicker. Small minimum order quantities or production runs available to suit customer requirements. Various OD and ID finishes as well as end machining details available to suit your supplied tolerances and drawings.

  • SPECIALTY METAL WELDED ASSEMBLIES FOR AEROSPACE Commercial electron beam welders on site to produce welds to your exacting requirements. Welding of specialty metals or dissimilar metals available.

  • EXTRUDED SHAPES Near net sized extruded shapes from specialty metals such as all grades of titanium. Shapes must fit within a 12" circle size. Hot stretch straightening available as well as other services.
